These are the pages of the Alberta Bryophyte and Lichen Interest Group. We are a self help group comprising people with a common interest in bryophytes and lichens. Our focus is to work together to learn and increase our knowledge of bryophytes and lichens and to raise their profile in the province.
Alberta Native Plant Council Abandons Bryophytes and Lichens
The Alberta Native Plant Council has introduced new guidelines for the Rare Plant Survey and has decided not to include bryophytes and lichens !?!?. They have renamed the survey the the Rare Vascular Plant Survey. Check out the document here and please write to the ANPC and object. This is a huge step backwards for ecology in the Province.
Workshop - Liverworts in Alberta - Saturday 14th April 2012
Another successful workshop was held at the University of Alberta. The enthusiasm of the group was inspiring. Thanks to all who attended.
Inventories
Check out the inventories list. It is growing and we will significantly expand this list this coming year. We are posting lists of recorded species for anyone to use. If you find new species at a location please let me know.
Future events in the pipeline
Come along and help us conduct inventories in Alberta. Sandy Davis is arranging at least one event a week to visit Provincial Parks and NCC properties to get bryophytes and lichens noticed. Sandy is in the UK at the moment but when she gets back we will post an events list for the summer.
Old Growth Forest Bryophytes and Lichens - A public event to highlight the threats to bryophytes and lichens in Old Growth Forest.
We have some other events planned for the fall. Watch this space ....
